Apartments leased under the Section 8 program must meet HUD’s Housing Quality Standards (HQS), and are physically inspected by BHA to ensure that they are being kept in safe and decent conditions. Before any Section 8 assistance can be provided on behalf of a household, BHA inspects the unit. If repairs are needed, they must be completed before the household will be allowed to rent. BHA makes its best effort to inspect and if required re-inspect units (if repairs are needed) in a timely fashion. Complete information on BHA’s inspection guideline and Housing Quality Standards (HQS can be found in chapter 12 of BHA’s HCV Administrative Plan.
